I am a writer and software engineer. I previously worked for Google and Microsoft. My writing has appeared in The Times Literary Supplement, the MIT Technology Review, The Nation, New Scientist, The Daily Beast, n+1, Bookforum, and many other publications. I authored the technology column in Slate, for which I was nominated for a National Magazine Award. I have lectured around the world on technology, literature, philosophy, and stupidity. I live in New York with my family and 5000 books.
My new book Meganets: How Digital Forces Beyond Our Control Commandeer Our Daily Lives and Inner Realities, is being published by PublicAffairs in March, 2023. My first book Bitwise: A Life in Code, was published by Pantheon Books in August, 2018.
